CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada's first female acting state forester says bolstering firefighter training is among her top priorities as she takes over an agency that recently underwent an independent investigation.
Kacey KC got the job in April. The former state forester resigned following the investigation into a fire set by authorities to reduce wildfire risk that escaped and destroyed 23 homes north of Carson City.
The state Forestry Division has since hired 37 more recruits following probe recommendations.
KC says her goals include building the firefighter training program and achieving national standards.
She says she gained valuable experience serving in the Peace Corps in Nepal where she met her husband and got her unusual surname.
Her husband's name was Khantri-Chhetri.
It's common in Nepal to abbreviate surnames so she later became Kacey KC.
