Nevada Lawmakers Look At Technology Privileges For Inmates And Public Pot

Nevada lawmakers have until Friday to pass dozens of bills out of their second houses. The Nevada Independent detailed several of the bills being discussed ahead of the deadline.

Nevada senators hear a measure Tuesday that would give prisoners more telecommunications privileges.

Assembly Bill 420 would allow inmates to use phones, cell phones or computers to correspond with family as well as search for jobs and find educational enrichment.

Prison officials would have to approve the usage and would be able to collect fees from prisoners for the use of some equipment.

A Nevada legislative budget committee is reviewing a measure today that would create a state Office of Cyber Security. 

Over two years, Assembly Bill 471 would appropriate $3.5 million for the formation of the agency. 

Also in the Assembly Tuesday is Senate Bill 236, a measure that would give counties the authority to allow public marijuana use on certain properties and at designated events.
