Nevada will expand the hunting and trapping season from 83 days to 95 days.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports the Nevada Wildlife Commission voted unanimously this weekend at a meeting in Elko to lengthen the season for fur-bearing animals like bobcats.
Some members of the public who provided comment were unhappy at the proposal, saying they thought a longer hunting and trapping season would have a negative impact on the bobcat in particular, whose population has grown.

The commission countered by saying it didn't know if the increase in bobcats was a trend that needed to be addressed or a blip, and that lengthening the season would allow them to learn more about how the bobcat population in Nevada was functioning.
