The Jackpot Justice court is closing due to Elko County's thin budget.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports that county commissioners on Wednesday voted to close the court and move its docket into the Wells Justice Court, which officials say will save the county almost $500,000 over four years.
Commissioner Glen Guttry says the Jackpot area was originally handled by Wells and that the state only requires a justice court to be maintained in each incorporated city. The Jackpot court was formed in 1979 and handles mostly traffic cases.

As the Jackpot court is funded by the county, not the city, it falls under commissioner control.
