Spearman Faces Challenger In State Senate Race

A North Las Vegas entrepreneur announced he's running for the state senate.

The Las Vegas Sun reports Arsen Ter-Petrosyan will run for the seat in district 1 as a Republican.

The seat is currently held by Democrat Pat Spearman.

Bob List, a former governor of Nevada, endorsed Ter-Petrosyan at an event Thursday.

Ter-Petrosyan moved to North Las Vegas last year after moving to southern Nevada in 2010.

He says he moved to the city after seeing mayor John Lee in an inteview, wherein he felt an urge to help.

If elected, Ter-Petrosyan plans to create jobs and fight crime.

He has neither ran for nor held public office before.

Casey Morell is the coordinating producer of Nevada Public Radio's flagship broadcast State of Nevada and one of the station's midday newscast announcers. (He's also been interviewed by Jimmy Fallon, whatever that's worth.)
