CARSON CITY (AP) — Nevada transportation regulators are preparing to discuss and adopt fast-tracked policies this week allowing ride-hailing companies like Uber and Lyft to legally operate in the state.
The Nevada Transportation Authority is scheduled to meet Thursday morning to discuss and vote on emergency regulations for ride-hailing companies.
Any emergency regulations would need to be approved by Gov. Brian Sandoval, who indicated in an interview with the Associated Press last week that he'll likely sign off on the fast-tracked regulations.
If approved, ride-hailing companies could begin submitting applications to operate in the state by June 29.
Bills allowing for ride-hailing passed the Legislature after much debate. One imposes a 3 percent fare tax projected to raise more than $70 million over two years.
