NV Assembly Passes Emergency School Construction Bill

The Nevada Assembly has passed an emergency bill extending bonds for school construction.

Assembly members voted 27-14 to approve SB 207, which gives school districts the authority to issue bonds for school construction beyond the term approved by voters. The 14 votes against the measure all came from Republicans.

The bill comes after Assembly Republicans were unable to come to a consensus on SB 119, which would extend school bonds and suspend prevailing wage requirements for school projects.

Senate Republicans introduced SB 207 on Tuesday due to concerns that delays in passing SB 119 would hinder schools from beginning construction and meeting key building deadlines.

The bill now heads to Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval, who has indicated he will sign the legislation.
