Nevada Infrastructure Gets Grade Of C-Minus

Civil engineers say Nevada's infrastructure deserves a grade of C-minus because funding isn't keeping pace with maintenance needs.

The 2014 report card from the Nevada section of the American Society of Civil Engineers is a downgrade from the group's last rating in 2007. The state got a C that year.

School facilities got the lowest grade of any subsection in the report card, with a D. Report authors say the lack of regular maintenance at schools leads to more emergency repairs, which cost about four times as much.

The report also points out that caps on property tax increases are preventing municipalities from collecting the money they need to support a growing population.

Authors say the state should reinvest in infrastructure now that the economy is growing again.
