Halloween is a multi-billion-dollar industry spearheaded by legions spending untold amounts of money on fake tombstones, plastic skeletons and costumes. But classically trained cellist Elizabeth Marshall is celebrating the yearly homage to the dead through music – and silent movies.
A Las Vegas native who went to Las Vegas Academy, Marshall will accompany several silent horror classics with acoustic and electric cello at the Artifice Lounge this Saturday night.
The 90-minute show includes movies from as early as 1896 up to 1928. And Marshall says some of the silent flicks "are as scary as modern-day movies."
"In fact, there are a couple films that rival any scary film I've seen in the past few years," she said.
A Danish film called "Witchcraft Through The Ages," she added, "is really, really disturbing honestly ... It's incredibly edgy for that time and still remains so."
Marshall will also accompany a puppeteer, who will do a brief show that she said also adds to the night's scares. Tickets for the show are $15 and it begins at 6 p.m.
