Industry Day Slated Ahead Of Vegas Freeway Project

Nevada transportation officials plan to host freeway designers and the public ahead of a big interstate highway improvement project near downtown Las Vegas. A Project Neon "industry day" meeting from 8:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday, at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas, follows the issuance on Tuesday of a request for qualifications from interested parties.

Improving the 3.7 miles of Interstate 15 from Sahara Avenue to the Spaghetti Bowl interchange will cost more than $1 billion. It's the busiest stretch of road in the state.

Work is slated to begin in 2016 with construction of a high occupancy vehicle bridge, connecting I-15 to U.S. 95 and a rebuilding of the Charleston Boulevard interchange.
