Officials are throwing around the idea of increasing the sales tax throughout Clark County to raise money for a proposed stadium at UNLV. The stadium board also suggests raising the hotel room tax on the Las Vegas Strip to help fund the project.
Costs for the project range from $523 million for an open-air, shaded venue of 42,000 seats, to $833 million for a domed stadium of 60,000 seats. Opponents at a stadium board meeting Wednesday said raising the sales tax would disproportionately hurt people on fixed incomes. Any tax increase must first be approved by the Legislature.
