Report: Bad Month Ends Bad Year For Nevada Casino Winnings

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada casino regulators say December was a historically bad month at the end of a historically bad year in a key measure of gambling activity.

The coronavirus pandemic was blamed for Thursday's state Gaming Control Board report showing that casino house winnings totaled $7.8 billion in 2020.

That was down 34.6% from the previous year, and the lowest for a calendar year since 1997. December's monthly total was down 35.4% from the same month in 2019.

Board analyst Michael Lawton noted the absence of events in December, including National Finals Rodeo and New Year's Eve fireworks, plus casino capacity limits due to COVID-19.
