Las Vegas Visits Still Down, Tourists Come By Road More Than Air

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Tourists and travelers are beginning to return to Las Vegas but mostly by highway and well below pre-coronavirus pandemic levels.

McCarran International Airport said Thursday it handled 1.6 million arriving and departing passengers in July.

That was down nearly two-thirds from the same month a year ago, but up 56% from about 1 million people in June.

The Convention and Visitors Authority says highway travel to Las Vegas is back to almost 90% of a year ago.

But overall visitor volume is still down 61%. With conventions canceled, the region's nearly 124,000 hotel rooms were just 42.5% full in July.
