RENO, Nev. (AP) — The National Weather Service has issued winter weather and high wind advisories for much of the Sierra and western Nevada through Thursday as snow and much colder weather moves into the region.

The service says winds will increase Monday into Tuesday with gusts reaching up to 45 mph in the valleys and up to 100 mph over ridge tops. The lake wind advisory runs through 5 p.m. Tuesday, with waves on Lake Tahoe expected as high as 4 feet.

Up to an inch of snow at lake level Monday could grow up to 4 inches Tuesday into Wednesday.
