Law enforcement and school officials say they are baffled by a dramatic surge in the number of students who have been struck by vehicles in the Reno-Sparks area this school year.
More than two dozen pedestrian accidents involving students have been reported since August, including two more on Tuesday.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the annual total so far is already more than three times the previous high of seven reported in any single school year.
School police officer MJ Cloud says no one seems to be able to find a reason for the uptick. One accident in October was fatal.
