Airline Catering Workers Plan Protest At Las Vegas Airport

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Airline catering workers and members of the casino-workers Culinary Union say they will protest at the Las Vegas airport on a busy travel day heading into Thanksgiving.

The workers plan to picket at Terminal 1 at McCarran International Airport Tuesday near American Airlines departures.

The Culinary Union's parent affiliate Unite Here represents workers at the catering company LSG Sky Chefs.

The union says the average wage of a Las Vegas airline catering worker is $12.41 and less than 36% have company health insurance.

Similar demonstrations are taking place in more than a dozen cities around the country to pressure American, Delta and United to pay more to catering companies so they can improve pay and benefits.

American says it's not part of the negotiations, but it's confident Sky Chefs and the union will reach an agreement with better terms for employees.
