2 Motels Near UNR To Be Demolished For New Reno Bus Station

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County plans to raze two motels just south of the University of Nevada, Reno campus to make way for a new rapid bus transit station.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports RTC Washoe acquired the Sundance Motel in June and closed on its purchase of the Coed Lodge in September.

RTC is working to buy two more adjacent properties as part of its plans to construct a new transit station that will extend its rapid bus service's operations all the way to the university campus. The rapid service currently runs between Fourth Street in downtown Reno to Meadowood Mall.

The new station is part of the $87 million Virginia Street Bus RAPID Transit Extension Project. It will occupy the eastern side of North Virginia Street between Eight and Ninth Streets.
