Nevada Highway Patrol officers issued over 500 citations in the first month of enforcing 24-hour HOV lane restrictions on Interstate 15 and U.S. Highway 95 in Las Vegas.
NHP began enforcing the restrictions 24 hours a day on June 20, issuing fines of $250 for motorists driving in the lanes by themselves.
The High Occupancy Vehicle lanes require two or more passengers to be in the vehicle. The HOV lanes opened in late May as part of the $1 billion Project Neon freeway widening project.
