LAS VEGAS (AP) — Principals of Las Vegas-area schools are offering to pool their resources to stave off the district from cutting all 170 dean positions.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports about a dozen Clark County School District principals brainstormed ideas Wednesday after Superintendent Jesus Jara said he would explore other ways to cut costs.
Jara has faced criticism after he announced last month that deans would be eliminated to plug a projected $17 million deficit in the district's budget.
He walked back that plan last week and is holding a series of meetings with staff, teachers and principals to find other options.
The principals floated the idea of funding the deans by schools sharing their money from vacant positions.
They also offered reduce the per-pupil amount in each school's budget.
