Lyon County Sues City Of Fernley Over Redevelopment District

Nevada’s Lyon County has sued the city of Fernley over a planned redevelopment district.

The suit claims the taxpayers of Lyon County will be negatively impacted if the proposed redevelopment area does not change and come into compliance with Nevada law.

The city of Fernley approved a redevelopment district in March that covers more than 40 percent of the city’s properties, including the historic downtown, east and west development areas, the city’s industrial area and a residential area.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the scope of the project limits Lyon County and the Lyon County School District’s ability to generate additional revenue for up to 30 years.

The city has estimated the redevelopment district could generate up to $348 million during its lifespan.
