Despite Funding From Legislature, CCSD Says It Has A Budget Shortfall

Despite receiving additional funding from the state, the Clark County School District says it still faces a budget shortfall for the coming year. CCSD officials say that shortfall could be between $17 million and $18 million.

The announcement came just hours after state lawmakers pushed through an education budget that nets an additional $53 million for the district to spend over the next two years.

The district also received an increase in per-pupil funding, after legislators voted to direct the 10 percent tax on recreational marijuana to education.

With the district still in shortfall, however, the threat of a teacher strike looms after the union recently voted to authorize a strike.

The Clark County Education Association says it will go forward with walkouts if classroom funding is cut.
