LAS VEGAS (AP) — Officials are reporting a Valentine's Day rainfall record for Las Vegas and closed roads in the Reno area.
With rain still falling at noon, the National Weather Service says the 0.75 inches of rain recorded at McCarran International Airport already broke the record of 0.74 inches set on Feb. 14, 1980.
The Nevada Highway Patrol is blaming wet roadways and reduced visibility for a spike in crashes in and around Las Vegas.
Trooper Jason Buratczuk reported eight crashes with injuries, 24 non-injury fender-benders and one hit-and-run crash.
Washoe County officials closed several roads due to water, including Toll Road at Bailey Creek crossing south of the city and Nectar Street at Lemmon Drive near the Swan Lake Nature Study Area north of town.
