LAS VEGAS (AP) — Federal officials have decided to walk away from a decade-long effort to rewrite a blueprint for managing southern Nevada land.
Environmental groups suspect new restrictions from the Trump administration may have made it impossible to complete.
The Interior Department last year instilled limits on environmental impact statements and required the southern Nevada plan to be completed two years earlier than expected in April 2019.
U.S. Bureau of Land Management officials began the project in 2008. Three months ago, they were still working on the update.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reportsthat BLM Gold Butte National Monument acting manager James Lee Kirk said in an email that planners decided the updated wasn't needed because many of the changes have already been made through legislation and amendments to the existing plan.
