Sponsors Concerned About Rape Allegations Against Soccer Star

Cristiano Ronaldo faced growing heat from sponsors over a rape allegation.

Both Nike and EA Sports expressed concern over the situation.

A woman claims the Portuguese soccer player raped her in a Las Vegas hotel room in 2009 and then hired a team of fixers to pay her to keep quiet about the incident.

Her lawyers now argue the woman suffers from PTSD and therefore any non-disclosure agreement should be nullified.

Las Vegas police confirmed they reopened the investigation, but declined to provide any further details about the original report filed in 2009.

Nike provided a statement to the Associated Press that described the company’s unease with the situation, which has a reported $1 billion deal with Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has denied the accusation, saying on Twitter that rape is an abominable crime and that he will patiently await the conclusion of any and all investigations.
