Group Wants UNLV Fraternity Shut Down Over Diversity, Inclusiveness Concerns

A group at UNLV wants a fraternity shut down because of “diversity and inclusiveness” concerns.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports about 20 other students joined Alexander Kostan in protest Thursday on campus.

Kostan recounted being turned away from a Kappa Sigma event on Saturday by a fraternity member who said that “my kind was not allowed there.”

A member of the fraternity told the Review-Journal the event was not part of recruiting efforts, and as a matter of policy was not open to anyone who was not a paying member of the organization.

Kostan’s group will discuss a list of demands with acting university President Marta Meana Friday.

Thursday was National Coming Out Day, a day that recognizes lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals.
