After Closure, Popular Zion Hiking Trail Back Open For Now

A temporary easement has allowed Zion National Park to temporarily resume issuing permits for the use of a popular trail through the Virgin River Narrows.

Those permits had been discontinued last week after private landowners posted "no trespassing" signs in the canyon.

Park officials on Friday announced that the landowners granted a temporary recreational access license to Washington County, allowing the resumption of permitting for use of the 16-mile Zion Narrow Trails.

Park Superintendent Jeff Bradybaugh says the landowners' goodwill and county officials' efforts are appreciated and that discussions are underway "to secure a more permanent solution."

The no-trespassing signs also advertised that more than a mile of the private land was for sale. It advertised one square mile with water resort potential.
