RENO, Nev. (AP) — The University of Nevada, Reno, plans to spend $2 million on top of nearly $700,000 spent last year to fix accessibility mistakes following a $14 million Mackay Stadium upgrade in 2016.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that an Americans With Disabilities Act audit by a consultant in July listed 167 compliance concerns at the 52-year-old stadium, from parking to entrance ramps to restrooms.
Campus President Marc Johnson acknowledges that in some cases, fans in wheelchairs can't see the field.
A WorthGroup executive told the Gazette-Journal he had no comment about allegations his company failed accessibility requirements in the 2016 renovation and a 2017 effort to add them.
UNR facilities executive Sean McGoldrick says a new architect should have plans ready in January for fixes to be completed by mid-2020.
