Water Authority Plans To Appeal Latest Ruling Against Pipeline Plans

The Southern Nevada Water Authority plans to appeal the most recent state ruling against the agency’s plans to build a pipeline to bring water from eastern Nevada to Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the authority board will hold a rare special meeting this week to appeal the state engineer’s ruling that denied the authority’s applications to pump water from four rural valleys in Lincoln and White Pine counties.

Water officials have been pushing the plan for nearly three decades, to provide a backup supply and feed growth to Las Vegas.

Longtime opponents of the pipeline project celebrated State Engineer Jason King’s decision but acknowledged this issue was likely headed back to court.

King made it clear in his ruling he didn’t agree with what he was doing, but said he had no other choice given the restrictions placed on him by a previous court order.
