Gubernatorial contender Steve Sisolak has come out against the Southern Nevada Water Authority’s proposal to build a pipeline project to route water from Eastern Nevada aquifers to Las Vegas.
The proposal has been on the drawing board since 1989, but in responding to water-policy questions from the Nevada Independent, Sisolak said Las Vegas should instead explore desalination as a possible long-term source of water.
He also said that in recent years the proposed pipeline has driven a wedge between northern and southern Nevada. The campaign of Adam Laxalt didn’t respond to the Independent’s water-policy questions.
