LAS VEGAS (AP) — The leading gaming and resort advocacy group in Nevada wants officials in Las Vegas to hold off on a proposed ordinance to allow hookah-style lounges where legal quantities of marijuana could be consumed by people 21 years old and older.
The Las Vegas Sun reports that Nevada Resort Association President Virginia Valentine said in a letter Tuesday to Mayor Carolyn Goodman that the proposal would create challenges for casinos near the lounges and asked for a delay in opening the lounges.
Councilman Bob Coffin, who has led efforts to move forward with the lounges, says the association's letter "won't slow us down."
Coffin says an advisory committee will likely move the proposal forward to be heard by the City Council in late October or early November.
