LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police say a gun-wielding man is dead after being fatally shot by a police sniper.
Police say the sniper shot the man Saturday when the man pointed his gun in the direction of officers after repeatedly waving it around during an encounter that lasted more than an hour.
According to Capt. Jamie Prosser police, officers initially responded to the scene after a report of domestic disturbance involving the man and his family and that officers eventually located the man in the neighborhood about an hour later.
Prosser says attempts to get the man to put down his gun and surrender were fruitless and that he'd previously fired two shots, one in his home and a second as he left the residence.
The man's identity wasn't released.
