Young Bull Moose Spotted Southeast Of Elko

ELKO, Nev. (AP) — A young bull moose has been spotted in a community in northeast Nevada, a relatively rare sighting in the high desert.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports a resident spotted the moose Tuesday near Spring Creek southeast of Elko.

Nevada Department of Wildlife's Joe Doucette says about 45 moose are estimated to be in Elko and Humboldt counties. The population is believed to have migrated to Nevada from Utah over the past several years.

Doucette says the sighting could be a first for the Spring Creek area, but one was spotted near the 6 Bar Ranch to the east a couple of years ago.

He says people should stay away if they see moose, which can be aggressive if they feel threatened.
