LAS VEGAS (AP) — Housekeepers, bartenders and other unionized workers in Las Vegas are picketing outside a casino-hotel in their latest push for a new contract.
Dozens of workers protested Friday outside the D in downtown Las Vegas amid triple-digit temperatures. The workers held signs and loudly demanded a new contract as patrons and others walked by.
The contracts of 50,000 unionized workers in Las Vegas expired earlier this year. The union and casino operators have reached agreements covering 42,000 of those workers, but the rest work at 13 casino-hotels that are still in negotiations.
Kitchen worker Ronald Gladstone says he is picketing to send a message to the casino-hotel operator to reach an agreement with the union because "nobody wins in a labor dispute."
The operator did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
