RENO, Nev. (AP) — Construction has begun for a new engineering building on the University of Nevada, Reno campus.
School officials say the College of Engineering's enrollment has nearly doubled over the past 10 years to more than 2,900 students and nearly 90 faculty members.
It's the fastest growing college on campus.
The 110,000-square-foot William N. Pennington Engineering Building will rise four stories with a classroom to accommodate 200 students, 150 graduate work stations, more than 40 faculty offices and 40 laboratories including a large-scale computer lab. It also will include food services and serve as home to the college dean's new office.
It's expected to cost nearly $92 million. The state has approved $41.5 million for the project with the remaining $50 million to come from donors and the university itself.
