LAS VEGAS (AP) — Steve Sisolak, a Nevada politician backed by former Sen. Harry Reid, has won a contentious Democratic primary for Nevada governor.
Clark County Commission colleagues Steve Sisolak and Chris Giunchigliani were vying to be Nevada's first Democratic governor in two decades. Both candidates pledged to stand up to President Donald Trump and the National Rifle Association.
Republican state Attorney General Adam Laxalt won the GOP primary for the governor's race against State Treasurer Dan Schwartz.
Sisolak outraised and outspent Giunchigliani in the race.
Sisolak has spent a decade on the governing body for Clark County, which includes the Las Vegas Strip and about two-thirds of the state's residents.
Moderate Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval is leaving the office because he is term-limited.
