RENO, Nev. (AP) — The largest locally owned not-for-profit health care network in Northern Nevada announced its plans to expand access to prevention and intervention services for mental health disorders and alcohol and drug addiction.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports Renown Health President and CEO Anthony Slonim announced Tuesday its objective to start the Stacie Mathewson Behavioral Health and Addiction Institute.
Reno philanthropist Stacie Mathewson and her husband are donating $6 million to Renown over the next five years to provide early screening to children who may be at risk of drug and alcohol abuse and to conduct research to identify the root cause of mental illness and addiction.
Mathewson's son died of an overdose five years ago at age 29. Mathewson says her son struggled with mental and behavioral issues at a young age.
