Planning Commission Delays Decision On New Downtown Casino

The Las Vegas Planning Commission postponed a decision Tuesday about a new casino hotel project downtown in the Fremont Street Experience area.

Derek Stevens, the owner of the D Las Vegas and the Golden Gate, has proposed plans for a new 750-plus room hotel and casino to be built on the site of the former Mermaids casino and Glitter Gulch strip club.

The commission delayed the vote because of height and airspace concerns for the 460-foot tower.

The developers must receive approval from the Federal Aviation Administration since the structure will be larger than 200 feet tall and its proximity to the North Las Vegas Airport.

The commission will again consider the project plans at their next meeting June 12.
