22.8% Of Southern Nevadans Who Died From Flu Were Vaccinated

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Health officials say that nearly one-quarter of the 57 Southern Nevadans who died of the flu during the current season were vaccinated.

Southern Nevada Health District officials say the majority of victims were older than 65 and that's a group especially at risk of developing such flu-related complications as pneumonia.

However, six of the people who died from the flu were under age 50.

The victims included a 12-year-old boy, a 24-year-old woman and a 37-year old man, all from Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reportsthat statistics show the nearly 23 percent who died despite receiving the flu vaccine shows how virulent this year's strain has been.

Federal health officials say the flu season that killed nearly 14,000 people nationwide now is finally showing signs of easing.
