Henderson Constable Earl Mitchell is no longer running for re-election.
His office announced Wednesday that the decision stems from “family related priorities that require his immediate attention.”
The announcement came after investigations by the Las Vegas Review-Journalrevealed that over the last two years, Mitchell paid himself more than $70,000 from an account containing county money intended to pay deputies.

In three months spent analyzing financial documents at the Constable’s office, the Review-Journal also found bank records for two township accounts showing Mitchell withdrew thousands of dollars in cash and used one account’s debit card for bar, restaurant and travel expenses.
