Report Shows More Than Half Of Nevada Rivers Have Been Modified

About 53 percent of Nevada’s rivers have been modified from their natural state.

According to research published this week from the Center for American Progress, which partnered with Conservation Science Partners, roughly 3,600 rivers miles in the state have been affected by human activity.

The information is part of a larger look into more than 300,000 miles of river in 11 western states, which researchers named Disappearing Rivers.

The study looked at everything from the Colorado River, which provides water to roughly 40 million people in seven states and two countries, down to Lamoille Creek in Nevada’s Ruby Mountains.

Overall, about 49 percent of rivers in the west have been modified from their natural state.
