Elko City Council Votes On Marijuana Ordinance

The Elko City Council voted Tuesday night to continue work on efforts to block marijuana shops from sprouting up in Elko.

After hearing strong comments for and against prohibiting medical and recreational marijuana businesses, the council voted to bring the proposed amendment to the city’s zoning ordinance back to the table.

Councilman John Patrick Rice was the only one to vote against efforts to implement such an ordinance – while Elko’s Police Chief Ben Reed voiced opposition to allowing marijuana shops in the city.
