A second person in Clark County this year has contracted West Nile virus.

Health District officials said yesterday the woman infected has a neurological form of the virus, which is spread through infected mosquito bites.

Many people with West Nile are asymptomatic, while others might experience fever, head and body aches and in the more serious cases neurological disease and death.

The first case in Clark County this year was reported in May and resulted in the death of a man over age 50. Two cases were reported in 2016, along with three cases of St. Louis Encephalitis.

The Health District recommended people eliminate standing pools of water near homes and using insect repellent containing DEET.
