RENO, Nev. (AP) — A fire official says humans caused two wildfires in the Reno area in recent days, including one that burned two construction trailers and briefly threatened as many as 100 homes.
Truckee Meadows Fire Chief Charlie Moore said Wednesday that a 62-acre fire that charred several backyards but spared homes in a development west of Reno wasn't intentional and arson isn't suspected.
Moore didn't provide a specific cause but says it appeared to have been accidental.
The fire spread south of Interstate 80 on Monday afternoon and had prompted voluntary evacuations for nearby residents. Moore says it's now about 50 percent contained.
The fire chief says another fire that covered about 3 acres near Verdi before it was contained on Monday started from an improperly extinguished illegal campfire.
