New School Rating System Delayed

The Nevada Department of Education is postponing the release of its new star-rating system for schools in the state.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the delay comes after districts pointed out what they believe to be flaws in the system. The rating system was slated for release on Sept. 15. But preliminary data with the new system was not favorable toward many of the schools.

Officials with the state department of education said the star classifications were dramatically down, for no evidence-based reason. Performance data will still be released to schools and parents on September 15 in the Nevada Report Card,  but a star rating will not.
