Utah Town Wants To Limit Hikers In Nearby Canyon

A small town in Utah wants to limit the number of people who can hike to on one of the busiest trailheads near Zion National Park.

Kanarra Creek Canyon has become one of Utah’s busiest hiking destinations, which introduced more than 40,000 people to its slot canyon and waterfalls last year.

Kanarraville leaders fear the recreational traffic could degrade the drinking water, which comes from a spring near the falls. Kanarraville is home to about 350 people and is now pursuing a leasing deal with the Utah School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration that would enable officials to significantly limit the number of people hiking in the canyon.
