Right-To-Die Bill Narrowly Passes State Senate

A bill that would put Nevada in with California and Oregon as a state with a so-called right-to-die law on the books moved forward in the Legislature.

According to the Nevada Independent, the State Senate voted Tuesday in favor of a bill that gives terminally ill patients the option to end their own lives with the help of a doctor.

Despite the narrow support in the Senate, Gov. Brian Sandoval has said he doesn’t support the idea.

Currently, patients in Nevada can refuse lifesaving treatments. Under the proposal, doctors could prescribe medications to end a person’s life under certain circumstances.

Doctors, however, would not be legally required to prescribe the drugs.
