Fretwell To Leave City Manager Position By Summer

Las Vegas city manager Betsy Fretwell announced this week that she will retire from the city after more than 25 years in public service.

Fretwell’s retirement will be effective in July, when she will take a position as the senior vice president of Switch Smart – the computing company’s new smart city division.

Fretwell joined the City of Las Vegas in 2000, and took the helm as city manager in 2009. She called battling through the recession one of her toughest challenges because the city had to eliminate a large chunk of the budget.

In Fretwell’s new position, she will head up strategic development, implement and oversee the expansion of Switch’s smart city development.
