County Commission Approves Millions In Public Projects Despite Concerns Over Federal Funds

Despite concerns about whether the federal government will reimburse the money, the Clark County Commission is proceeding with $25 million in public projects.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the county will go ahead with the projects without a guarantee it will receive about $5 million per year in Community Development Block Grants.

The federal reimbursements are in question after President Trump released his proposed federal budget last week, which called for cutting the block grant program by July of next year.

The county uses most of the money as reimbursement for public projects in low-income communities.

The commissioners voted for the projects because the president’s budget is a proposal. Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani said if the funding does get cut the commission will have to go back and find additional money.
