UNLV Student Newspaper To Change Name

The student newspaper at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, is changing its name from "Rebel Yell" to "The Scarlet & Gray Free Press" in a bid to end criticism that it was named for a Confederate Army battle cry.

U.S. Sen. Harry Reid on Tuesday praised newspaper editor-in-chief Bianca Cseke's announcement that the change will debut next semester.

The new name reflects the campus color scheme.

Cseke tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal that a Confederate battle cry isn't a great name for a newspaper.
