LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Clark County School District banned clown costumes on Halloween after a possible school shooting threat appeared on social media from the Instagram account "shootertheclown."
KSNV-TV reports the district and Las Vegas police said Monday they were prepared to deal with anyone who planned to carry out any threats on school campuses.
The warning comes after several online threats targeting Las Vegas Academy. The one from "shootertheclown" used emojis to depict a shooting and warned the academy to "Prepare for Monday."
Authorities believe the social media posts are part of a prank, but they are working with the district to increase security.
The heightened security also follows last week's arrest of a 15-year-old boy accused of threatening a mass shooting at Desert Oasis High School in Las Vegas.
